Corner letter characteristics:
'FG' G very low and to the left
'FI' bottom line extends to right, F is high and to the right, I very low and to the right
'HG' H is low to left, G high to left

In 1841 the stamp colour was changed from black to red, and initially some of the same plates used to print the Penny Black were also used to print the Penny Reds. Penny black plates 1b, 2, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11 were used to print the first Penny Reds.
