SG43 Plate 195, 1876
The plate number 195 can be seen circled, and the current number 232 can be seen above stamps AA
and AB. The second current number on the plate would be below stamps TK and
TL.

The plate number is also engraved on each stamp

Selvage above the 6th stamp.
To the right you can see the left-hand side of a cross that marks the middle of
the sheet, the vertical bar can just be seen on the right. Above the middle of
the sixth stamp is a vertical line which is part of the selvage design, it also
occurs below the middle of the seventh stamp at the bottom of the plate. What
its purpose was I do not know.
Put to press 18 Nov 1876
The full marginal inscription reads
"PRICE 1d. Per Label. 1/- Per Row of 12. £1... Per Sheet. Place
the Labels ABOVE the Addrefs and ..."towards the RIGHT HAND SIDE of the
Letter. In Wetting the Back be careful not to remove the Cement.
Further details of marginal markings and inscriptions and marginal watermark
can be found in The Postage Stamps of Great Britain. Part
1. Imperforate line-engraved Issues, Seymour . See also Part 2
Wiggins.
