A newspaper and postcard rate of ½d was introduced in
Oct 1870
A new 1½d stamp was issued for the new 2 ounce postal rate
In 1860 the 1½d was printed in rosy mauve but was
never issued.
New postal rates

| Not exceeding 4 ounce | 2d |
| Each additional 2 ounces beyond 4 ounces, ½d, max 12 ounces |
The ½d stamp is the first one issued in horizontal
format and was issued in 20 rows of 24 stamps each
having the unique corner letters from AA to TX (instead of AA to TL) i.e. U, V,
W and X are new
The 1½d stamp was prepared for issue in 1860 in rosy mauve but never issued
