Bloomfield Great HouseThe finest dining and view in Mandeville. After a hike in the hills you can relax on the balcony and enjoy an afternoon view of Mandeville. If you wait until dusk you can watch the Egrets from all around the hills descend upon Mandeville to roost. Open from 12 noon for lunch thru dinner until 10pm, Monday thru Saturday. Menu varies from fish and chips, and sandwiches on the lunch menu to pasta, lobster and filet mignon on the dinner menu. The soups are excellent and there is also a bar menu. Prices are typical N American, portions are more European which means that you can try the delicious cheesecake for desert. The verandah seats 30, there is also an inside dining room seating 36 and a function room for up to 80. There is also a private dining room for 12. There is even a TV room for the kids. The rooms also have Jamaican art hung on the walls. click here for a short mpg movie (295 kB)
Originally a coffee estate, Bloomfield was built many years before the town of Mandeville was formed in 1838. The Great House, of Georgian architecture, has recently been renovated by Pamela and Ralph. It is frequented by the expats working at the local Alumina works and the wealthier Jamaicans. To be appreciated at its best, in my opinion, come for lunch and linger awhile to enjoy the view and the cool breeze over a drink. They have a range of fruit punches and wines, also some nice fat cigars. They also have Red Stripe on tap. Ralph is a keen scuba diver and instructor, and can advise. email: bloomfield.g.h@cwjamaica.com
