GREEK ISLANDS, 7th Edition by Dana Facaros, Michael Pauls, Claudia McNulty Paperback - 480 pages 7th edition (May 1998) Globe Pequot Pr; Amazon

Greek Islands Review If the Greek islands are on your itinerary, don't miss this fabulously forthright read. Greece obviously pulses strongly through author Facaros, whose father comes from the northeastern Aegean island of Ikaría. She has spent more than two decades hopping these islands to bring you the most relevant, revealing, and readable tidbits on Greece's famous outer reaches. With interesting cultural sidebars scattered throughout, Cadogan Greek Islands offers more than a listing of eats and sleeps (though there are plenty of detailed recommendations for places to dine and stay). My Family and Other Animals. by Gerald Malcolm Durrell Paperback Reprint edition (August 1979) Viking Pr; Amazon

My family and other animalsReview: As a self-described "champion of small uglies," English writer Gerald Durrell (1925-1995) devoted his life to writing and the preservation of wildlife, from the Mauritius pink pigeon to the Rodriques fruit bat. My Family and Other Animals was intended to embrace the natural history of the Greek island of Corfu, but ended up as a delightful account of his family's experiences that were, according to him, "rather like living in one of the more flamboyant and slapstick comic operas." Review: Unbelievably Hilarious! This book was really really funny- I embarrassed myself by laughin out loud uproariously on a public bus... his vocabulary is fantastic and his story telling abilities amazing. This book will make you long to visit Greece... and will brighten your day as you recognize characterisitcs of your own family in his truthful anecdotes. Definitely worth owning 2 copies...one to read and one to lend.
Webmaster: Gerald Durrell lived on Corfu, I read it twenty years ago and it was a hoot then. A good holiday read.
